North Pole Marathon

The world's coolest marathon, the North Pole Marathon (Np marathon), was held for the fourth time. 38 runners from 14 countries lined up at 5:30 AM on Wednesday 7 April 2009 to start this gruelling 42 km race over the polar ice. Among them Rob Plijnaar from Utrecht, The Netherlands, the first Dutchman to take part in the North Pole marathon. Organizer Richard Donovan spoke of the coldest edition ever with temperatures during the race between -37ºC to -47ºC.
