From an early age I (Rob Plijnaar, 14/2/1951, Utrecht, Netherlands) was fascinated by my father's camera - an Agfa with fold-out bellows. It produced beautiful 6.5 x 6.5 cm photos in black and white. Historical documents that I still cherish today.

I use my photos to remember things. So much happens around you that it is difficult to hold on to all those impressions. If you capture a subject well you can relive it at a later date. You can savour the atmosphere of that moment. It takes you back in time.
In addition to my passion for photography, I am an ardent marathon runner. After running hundreds of marathons and half marathons, I started on the ultra-marathons which have distances of 250 km and longer. They are organised all over the world and usually in the most breathtaking of places. Ultra-running is a discipline apart: occasionally you need to stop to eat and drink and, of course, to take photographs.
I often use my camera for my work at the Mitland Hotel. I have lived and worked in this beautiful part of Utrecht, the Netherlands, my whole life. This is where my love of nature was born.
It was not my initial intention to use the internet as a way of publishing my photos. However, my family and friends often inquired about our travels and sports activities and what could be easier than viewing them on a website?
I hope you enjoy this trip around the world!
Rob Plijnaar
